Loyalty - a gift to give

In some parallel universe that it seems we are living in, loyalty apparently has very little meaning, in particular the lack of, in my opinion, as exhibited by Conservative MPs recently. Members of Parliament, who are elected by the public to represent their interests and concerns in the House of Commons, appear to have abandoned any sign of loyalty to either their constituents, the party, their elected Leader or even their country. In behaving this way, a large number of them may very well find themselves out of a job – NOTE: I am available to help with CV’s - but perhaps more importantly individuals’ reputations will be tarnished and trust diminished.

No matter what your political persuasion, loyalty is key to success, putting one’s self-interest to one side for the greater good surely is essential when there are so many challenges that we are all facing. In the business world, loyalty to the Leadership is key to success. Loyalty is built by listening, understanding motivations and trusting the team and individuals to play their part for the greater good - it is a two-way street.

Loyalty is not a given. It is earnt and sometimes rewarded, (although not always). Demonstrating loyalty does not have to mean we have to acquiesce to everything our leader says, we do however, in my experience, must have adult conversations to explain any misgivings and then make our own moral / ethical judgement as to whether we want to continue or make an honourable and graceful exit.

Loyalty is a gift that is ours to bestow and holds tremendous value, as quickly as it is built it can be torn down if it is not valued.
