Menopause: Be Aware and Be Prepared
Employers:
Do you have a menopause policy so your staff are aware of what support you can give, and who to speak to?
Importantly, do your managers know how to talk to staff regarding menopause in a respectful empathic way?
Are your managers trained?
Do they understand the various stages of menopause and symptoms?
Are you aware that there have been tribunal claims where menopause has been mentioned and they are on the increase?
Have jobs been evaluated to understand if menopause symptoms could make the role harder? Such elements could be:
o Long shifts;
o Accessibility to regular toilet breaks;
o Office/ Factory temperature controls;
o Uniforms which may not be in a suitable fabric.
What flexibility can be offered?
Employers, by law, are responsible for the Health and Safety of all staff, including employees working from home, including those affected by the menopause. There should be a Nominated Menopause Champion who can be available for your staff and Managers.
