Coaching is no longer a “nice to have”

Coaching is no longer a “nice to have” but essential at this time. The ability to adapt to the post- pandemic world is going to be critical to success. Coaching will definitely help with this process.

We have found that among other challenges we have faced is the ability to adapt to ‘Zoom’ or ‘Teams’ interviews.  This is because most of us do not like to see ourselves on screen and become uncomfortable in the virtual world. Combined with what appears to be the magnification of certain traits, use of hands etc whilst missing the nuances of body language, which are so much easier to read on a one-to-one basis in person. So, how do we deal with the idiosyncrasies of the virtual world whilst trying to communicate the body language we want to.  One such challenge was posed by one of my Clients recently when he expressed concern that his “gravitas” was not translating well in the virtual world. Together we worked on various methods to communicate his “gravitas” to his audience, understanding the medium and adapting it to his advantage. Obviously, this took a number of sessions, but the end result was successful, with a number of job offers on the table.

Coaching is not a ‘one size fits all’, it is about building a relationship, developing a chemistry between the coach and coachee, building trust and understanding the objective, all of which takes time.
